Tiny sponge that means no more jabs

-

A MAGNETIC drug implant means patients might not need to go to hospital for regular injections. The implant — a 6mm wide magnetic sponge — is infused with the drug a patient needs and implanted surgically.

Passing a magnet over the device squeezes the sponge, releasing the drug.

Canadian scientists have tested the device in animal tissue with the prostate cancer drug docetaxel, reports the journal Advanced Functional Materials.

The magnet repeatedly delivered the drug after multiple uses.

It’s hoped the device could be used for cancer drugs, painkillers or hormones.
