Forced out by HS2

-

NO ONE is giving a voice to the victims of hs2 and the misery it’s causing to homeowners. I’m one of those who had to sell my house to the Department for transport to escape the noise and disruption hs2 will cause.

I lived in the same house for 38 years: we raised a family there and I was ready to die there. then, in 2010, we heard that the planned hs2 route ran right next to our road. From 2010 to 2015, everything we heard made matters sound worse. We were told there would be thousands of trucks on the local roads.

I found it impossible to sell my house privately, and it would take a very long letter to describe all the problems I encountered selling it to the Department for transport. It undervalued the property and there is no independent body to which we can complain. I’m retired and calculate that I’ve lost at least £140,000 due to hs2.

hs2 is a vanity project which will merely bring financial problems and misery to thousands of homeowners. GEOFF POWELL,

London SW18.
