- By Maureen Sugden

POLICE were last night investigating after a man was shot in ‘a targeted attack’.

Emergency services were called out to Stepps on the outskirts of Glasgow at 9.05pm following reports of gunfire.

A 42-year-old man was taken to hospital.

Local residents took to social media to express their shock and post pictures of emergency service vehicles at the scene.

On Twitter, Lauren McGeady wrote: ‘Shooting at the top of my street... nice. Thought Stepps was meant to be a nice area.’

A Police Scotland spokesman said: ‘Police arrived and the injured man has been taken to hospital where he is receiving treatment. Hospital staff describe his condition as “stable”.

‘This appears to be a targeted attack and officers are currently carrying out enquiries in the local area to gather more information.’

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.

On Thursday, a man was shot in the leg just after he had finished strapping his fouryear-old son into a car seat.

The victim chased the gunman following the shooting in Shawlands, Glasgow, which happened about 8.10am.

Police said they are treating it as attempted murder, adding it was ‘not a random attack.’
