Is Prince Charles right to ‘meddle’ in politics?
I’M HORRIFIED to read about Prince Charles’s exploits in attempting to intervene in political matters concerning the invasion of Afghanistan (Mail). I fear for the future of our monarchy if this man is allowed to become King. It’s clear his interference in governmental matters could be seen as a danger to this country — and it’s not the first time, either. Her Majesty has reigned for 65 years without fault and has served her subjects very well. My hope is that the Queen will realise the problem and have the power to hand the monarchy over to Prince William, who would make an excellent sovereign, just as his wife would be an equally excellent Queen. I also feel that the majority of the British public would not welcome Camilla as Queen. pHilip M. CARliNi, Bungay, Suffolk. WE sHoULDN’T be too critical of Prince Charles or accuse the heir to the throne of ‘meddling’ (Mail). In defence of Charles, perhaps he was correct to try to interfere with the actions of those two warmongers Bush and Blair. After all, the invasion of Afghanistan wasn’t the great success the politicians would have us believe, and it left many innocent members of the Afghan public and of our own military dead. As for Charles’s alleged confrontation with Margaret Thatcher regarding a ‘divided Britain’, history has already proved the Prince correct as is testified by the grotesque gap between the rich and poor, and the enormous disparity in pay between bosses and workers, not forgetting the fact that if you are poor, sick unemployed or homeless, you are a victim of Britain’s divide. The Prince of Wales is correct and deserves an apology.
