£113m Ramsay says children have to pay their own way

- By Laura Lambert TV and Radio Reporter

HE pulls no punches in the kitchen and has carved out a successful TV career based on his tough-guy demeanour.

And it seems Gordon Ramsay’s image is not an act as he’s just as tough on his family, insisting he will not leave his multi-million pound fortune to his children.

The Scots TV chef said he and his wife, Tana, have agreed their four children will each get a ‘2 per cent deposit on a flat’.

Asked whether he was planning to leave his reported £113million fortune to Matilda, 1 , twins Jack and Holly, 17, and Megan, 18, he said: ‘It’s definitely not going to them, and that’s not in a mean way; it’s to not spoil them.

‘The only thing I’ve agreed with Tana is they get a 2 per cent deposit on a flat, but not the whole flat. I’ve never been really turned on about the money and that’s reflected in the way the kids are brought up.’

Ramsay said that he does not let his children join him and Tana in First Class because they haven’t worked for it.

He said: ‘I turn left with Tana and they turn right. I worked my a**e off to sit that close to the pilot and you appreciate it more when you’ve grafted for it.’

By most people’s standards, the celebrity chef’s offspring enjoy a luxurious lifestyle – including exotic holidays, VIP parties and a selection of mansions around the globe. But Renfrewshire-born Ramsay said Megan, who is at university, gets a budget of £100 a week, while the other three children get £ 0.

His strict approach extends to making sure meals are eaten at the table.

Asked if the family eat while watching TV, he told Radio Times: ‘No, that’s pretty gross. I like to eat properly, hold conversations, divide and conquer, find out who’s doing what, then retire to the sofa, with a drink.’

Ramsay also revealed he was asked to judge The Great British Bake Off on Channel 4 but refused as he didn’t want to be the ‘male Mary Berry’.

He said: ‘I’m 30 years younger and more wrinkly than her anyway.’
