DEAL OR NO DEAL?

WAGHORN: I want to stay at Rangers...

- By STEPHEN McGOWAN

MARTYN WAGHORN has urged Rangers to make him a contract offer he cannot refuse.

The striker has 15 months remaining on his current deal, although talks over an extension broke down last season.

Insisting he is now as happy as he has ever been at a club, however, Waghorn concedes he would love to resolve his long-term future.

Speaking as Rangers prepare to face Partick Thistle at Ibrox today in a bid to make up ground on second-placed Aberdeen, the Englishman said: ‘I have still got 15 months left on my contract. There is no rush. I am more than happy here. I have enjoyed playing and having a run in the team. Hopefully, it is something that can get addressed.

‘I would love to stay. I love this place. I am enjoying challenging for trophies. I have never been so happy at a club. If something comes about, great, if not I am more than happy playing for this

club at the minute.’ Winger Barrie McKay has turned down an offer of another two years from Rangers, with manager Pedro Caixinha insisting he wants more from the 22-yearold Scotland international if he is to become one of the top earners at Ibrox. Admitting Rangers players are now playing for their futures as the Portuguese boss makes judgments on those at his disposal, Waghorn added: ‘I am guessing he is judging everyone. Everyone is playing for their place in the squad, just like me. I am trying to do my best. I am trying to stay in the team and do as well as I can for the club. ‘Whatever happens, happens. But, really, I am more than happy being here. ‘I am enjoying my football and I am enjoying where the club is going. Hopefully, I can be a part of that.’ Meanwhile, Aberdeen captain Ryan Jack has given Derek McInnes his word that he will not be heading to Ibrox next season. Reports suggested Rangers boss Caixinha is weighing up a summer move for the out-ofcontract 25-year-old midfielder, who has been with the Dons for nine years. Using an interview on the club’s Twitter account to refute that, however, Aberdeen manager McInnes admitted he hasn’t given up hope of the hometown boy staying put at Pittodrie. ‘Ryan gave me assurances that there has been no contact (with Rangers), that he doesn’t anticipate contact and that it’s not something he’s interested in,’ said McInnes. ‘He feels he is really happy here. He hasn’t ruled out staying and we’re all hoping he will be here (next season). ‘But if he does decide to move on, his likely destination will be England. ‘He sees that maybe being his next opportunity if he decides to leave Aberdeen. ‘So there’s absolutely nothing in it and you have to question the reason for it, whether it’s to try and destabilise us or whatever. ‘I have been assured by Ryan — and I trust Ryan — that neither he nor his agent have had any contact with Rangers.’
