£800k for United if Klopp seals the Robertson deal
CASH-STRAPPED Dundee United are in line for an £800,000 windfall as Liverpool close in on Scotland international Andy Robertson. The Anfield giants are ready to pay close to £8million for the 23-year-old left-back as manager Jurgen Klopp bids to resolve a problem area in his team.
With the Tannadice club having insisted on a ten-per-cent sell-on clause after Robertson left United for Hull City for £2.85m in 2014, they stand to pocket a substantial slice of the transfer fee should he quit the relegation-threatened Tigers for Merseyside.
The money would be especially welcome for promotionchasing United who suffered significant financial losses after dropping from the Premiership to the second tier last season. Robertson, who made his name at Queen’s Park and United after being rejected by Celtic for being too small, has continued to impress for Marco Silva’s Hull despite their struggles this campaign and has become a firstpick for Gordon Strachan’s Scots. England international midfielder James Milner has made the left-back position his own at Liverpool this year ahead of Spaniard Alberto Moreno, who is expected to leave this summer, but Klopp is seeking a specialist in the area and Robertson (left) fits the bill. But the Scot may still face a battle for the jersey with Milner, while Klopp has also been linked with Real Betis left-back Riza Durmisi.
