Ramsey promises to deliver a Cup of cheer for under pressure boss

AARON RAMSEY vowed to win the FA Cup for under-fire manager Arsene Wenger after Arsenal produced a gutsy Wembley win to book their final place. The Gunners fought back from a goal down to clinch victory over Manchester City, courtesy of Alexis Sanchez’s extra-time winner, and set up a mouth-watering FA Cup final against Chelsea next month. The result means Pep Guardiola will end the season trophyless for the first time in his managerial career — though the City boss insisted his team will emerge stronger from yesterday’s disappointment. But Wenger now has a crack at winning a record-breaking seventh FA Cup, and midfielder Ramsey urged his team-mates to complete the job in May. ‘We have let him (Wenger) down at times this season, we want to win it for him and ourselves,’ said the Wales international. ‘It was important to win today, to have something to look forward to. But now we have another seven cup finals to try and get into the top four.’ Wenger, who continued to dodge questions about his future, said the win proved his players remain united despite recent struggles. ‘We have gone through a very difficult period, we faced some adversity that made the situation more difficult from inside as well,’ he said. ‘We showed a united response, not a divided response. Mentally, we were in a fragile position. ‘I feel the club is in a very strong shape; we have a very strong overall situation and a very strong team.’ Meanwhile, Guardiola has fresh fitness concerns ahead of Thursday’s Manchester derby after David Silva and Sergio Aguero limped off. City had a first-half Raheem Sterling goal disallowed when the linesman ruled that Leroy Sane’s cross had drifted behind the goal-line before reaching the City player. But Guardiola said: ‘The linesman could not see that situation. To see that ball you have to be in line and when you are five metres (away) you cannot see. It’s impossible.’

N’GOLO KANTE has been voted the Professional Footballers’ Association player of the year. The tireless midfielder, 26, has been central to Chelsea’s surge to the Premier League summit. Kante, who is on course to seal a second straight title after winning with Leicester last year, won the most votes from his peers. Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli, 21, won the young player prize for the second successive year.
