GWYNETH’S PRICES ARE JUST POTTY...

NOT long after I bought my first house with a garden, I took an excited trip to Dobbies Garden Centre. A whole new world had opened up to me – one of bedding plants and pruning shears, fruit trees and flower bulbs. And, it transpired, near bankruptcy. Because it turns out gardening is horribly, hideously expensive. I’d have needed a second mortgage just to buy a few pots, never mind branching out into plants. So, frankly, I could have done without Gwyneth Paltrow, pictured left, popping up this week to launch her new gardening shop with such essentials as a £328 pewter jug and a £94 watering can. At prices like this, I’d rather stay indoors.
