Boris’s garden bridge ‘axed’

-

A PLAN to build a ‘garden bridge’ over the Thames, which has already cost taxpayers nearly £40million, could be abandoned, it emerged yesterday.

The project was backed by Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson when he was London mayor.

But last night current Mayor Sadiq Khan withdrew support for the pedestrian bridge, which would have been filled with plants and trees. He said he would not risk any more taxpayers’ money.

The likely cost has spiralled from £60million to £200million. The trust behind it has seven months to raise tens of millions to secure its future.
