Boy oh boy! Mum’s nine sons ... and another is on the way

- Daily Mail Reporter

WHEN Alexis Brett discovered she was expecting another baby boy, she wasn’t a bit surprised.

For she has given birth to nine sons – and no daughters – in the past 15 years.

And despite what many may think, she insists her large family isn’t because she was trying for that elusive baby girl.

Mrs Brett, 37, said: ‘At every 20-week scan, we found out the sex, but I’ve no idea why we bothered as, deep down, we already knew. It’s amazing I’ve had so many boys.

‘It’s thought I’m the first in the UK. But I wouldn’t have it any other way.

‘People always ask if I have I been trying for a girl. But I can honestly answer, “No”. I’m happy with my boys. I wouldn’t have a clue what to do with a girl now.’

When she met husband David, a 42-yearold train driver, in 1998, they had never dreamed of having such a large family.

But Mrs Brett soon became pregnant with Campbell, now 15, and since then she has given birth almost every two years.

Harrison, 13, was next, followed by Corey, 11, Lachlan, nine, Brodie, seven, Brahn, six, Hunter, four, Mack, three, and 14-monthold Blake.

The couple, who live in a five-bedroom house in Inverness, are thought to be the first in Britain to have ten boys in a row.

But despite the record, Mrs Brett insists she will not be adding to her brood and plans to be sterilised after the birth of her youngest son later this month.

She is taking the drastic action because she believes that she is immune to birth control.

‘I’ve always used contraception, whether it was the Pill or the coil, but I just fell pregnant again anyway,’ she said. Running a house with nine boys takes a lot of hard work. With nine hungry mouths to feed, Mrs Brett is never able to fit her weekly shop into the fridge or kitchen cupboards, so the family does one £150 shop for the staples at the beginning of the week followed by a second £100 supermarket run.

To keep her boys in check, Mrs Brett wakes up at 5.30am and vacuums before doing four loads of washing.

Incredibly, she makes 58 packed lunches a week for the family and does all the washing up by hand. Now, Mrs Brett finally thinks it could be time to stop having children. She said: ‘I’m getting quite a bit of hip pain and I think it’s my body’s way of telling me to stop, which is fair enough.’
