PREMIERSHIP TEAM OF THE YEAR

-

CHAMPIONS Celtic provide six players in the PFA Scotland Premiership Team of the Year, with four players from second-placed Aberdeen. Partick Thistle defender Liam Lindsay is the only player outside of the top two teams selected. Team (4-3-3):

Joe Lewis (Aberdeen) — Opposition strikers have had a tough time this season finding a way past the Dons keeper, who has kept 20 clean sheets in all competitions. A hugely significant player for Derek McInnes’ side. Shay Logan

(Aberdeen) — The right-back is rarely out of the team and has been a rock in the Dons defence. Supporters will be hoping he remains if the club is to seriously threaten Celtic for the title in seasons to come. Mikael Lustig (Celtic) — His inclusion in the Team of the Year caps a fine week for the Swede, who scored in last week’s demolition of Rangers. Reliable and steady in the Parkhead defence. Liam Lindsay (Partick Thistle) — One of the many reasons for the feelgood factor at Firhill has been the defender’s form. Lindsay (above) is the only player outwith the top two sides in the country to be named in the Team of the Year. Kieran Tierney (Celtic) — You have to keep reminding yourself the left-back is still only 19. He has matured immensely under Brendan Rodgers and is one of the first names on Celtic’s team-sheet. Stuart Armstrong (Celtic) — Out of sorts and out of position under previous boss Ronny Deila, but Armstrong is now one of the club’s most important players under Rodgers. He has netted 14 times this season, an impressive total for the midfielder. Scott Brown (Celtic) — Captain of the Scottish champions has impressed again this season. He makes it into the Team of the Year after Rodgers admitted he was baffled Brown was not on the shortlist for Player of the Year. Kenny McLean (Aberdeen) — Another of the Dons team who is close to securing the tag of ‘Best of the Rest’ in the Premiership. Don’t be surprised if the midfielder is pursued by other clubs in the summer transfer window. Jonny Hayes (Aberdeen) — Rumours of a move to Cardiff City in the January window did not disturb the Irishman (bottom left) and he promptly signed a deal keeping him at Pittodrie until 2019. A stand-out performer for McInnes. Moussa Dembele (Celtic) — A bargain signing for Rodgers, the Frenchman (left) is the club’s top scorer and his inclusion in Team of the Year would have come as a surprise only to those who have been on Mars this season. Scott Sinclair (Celtic) — The sixth Celtic player in the Team of the Year. The club’s top scorer in the league, he was another marvellous piece of business by Rodgers at the start of a stunning campaign.
