MacKINNON READY TO UNLEASH THE SHACKLES

- By BRIAN MARJORIBANKS

HAMILTON midfielder Darian MacKinnon has called on warring Accies to come together as the team makes one last push to avoid the play-offs. Captain Mikey Devlin was involved in a nasty exchange with fans, whose venom towards the defender at full-time upset his family sitting in the main stand at the Super-Seal Stadium. Manager Martin Canning was also targeted by irate supporters after their team slumped three points below Motherwell to second bottom in the Scottish Premiership. MacKinnon can understand the ill-feeling amongst the rank and file. But he is hoping that desperate times will see imperilled Accies throw caution to the wind in their final two games. ‘We need to win our last two games — but maybe that’s what we need,’ he said. ‘To just get the shackles off and go for it. ‘Of course we need the fans behind us — but you can understand their frustration. ‘It’s a local derby, the game was absolutely brutal and we have lost. ‘But we have two more games to go. We are not down. We will take the shackles off and go for the win at Ross County on Tuesday night. ‘We are capable of winning at Ross County and then beating Dundee.’ MacKinnon believes ‘soft’ Accies were the authors of their own downfall against Motherwell with poor marking for Louis Moult’s second-half winner. ‘Yet again a set-piece has killed us,’ he sighed. ‘It’s frustrating. If you’re not going to win a game at this time of the season then the last thing you do is give away a really soft goal. ‘There was nothing in the game. Then they send in a free-kick, one of our guys goes with his man but doesn’t get to the ball. ‘Yes, it went in off Moult’s shoulder. But we don’t seem to get that kind of luck because we are not winning headers in the box.’
