‘Some elements like a royal wedding’
SHE may not be the blushing bride, but Prince Harry’s girlfriend Meghan Markle is likely to attract some attention as she attends Pippa Middleton’s wedding today.
So it was little surprise that the 35-year-old actress took time for a little pampering yesterday.
The American star, who has flown in from her home in Canada, visited a salon in Soho, London, for a £250 facial before returning to Kensington Palace where Harry, 32, lives. It is their most high-profile event yet as a couple and there are rumours they may soon get engaged too.
As the final preparations for Miss Middleton’s lavish wedding to hedge fund boss James Matthews were under way yesterday, details of the huge police operation surrounding it – for which taxpayers will pick up the bill – became clear.
Temporary security cameras were set up on a public footpath behind the Middletons’ £5million house in Bucklebury, Berkshire, and there was a strong police presence. Today, as well as plain-clothed bodyguards for the royal party – the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Harry – uniformed officers will patrol around the house and St Mark’s Church in nearby Englefield. Plain-clothed officers will also mingle among bystanders.
Some roads and footpaths have been closed, and Englefield residents have to wear wristbands. It is not known how much the operation, which police admitted has ‘some elements like a royal wedding’, will cost. Thames Valley Police declined to comment.
Miss Middleton, 33, and Mr Matthews, 41, have spared no expense, including hiring a £100,000 glass marquee, and have up to 100 staff to ensure the day goes smoothly. But they can do nothing about the weather – and showers are forecast.
