Should the Prime Minister stay or quit now?

-

IN VIEW of the hysterical calls for the Prime Minister to resign after the disappointing election results, I feel compelled to speak out in her favour. Theresa May has bravely faced some very difficult problems head on. At a time when vital Brexit discussions are about to take place, we need a Prime Minister with gumption at the helm. We would do well to heed the words of the poet Hilaire Belloc: ‘Always keep a hold of nurse, for fear of finding something worse.’ MILES NAPIER, Stamford, Lincs. I FIND it incredible that Theresa May is still in No 10. Where is her sense of pride, self-respect and public duty? She asked voters for a blank cheque for Brexit, and then added a lot of other nasty stuff and thought she could blag her way forward. But people saw through it. At least David Cameron had the decency to fall on his sword when he lost the referendum. How does Mrs May think she can govern when there are people in her Cabinet just waiting to stab her in the back? R. HAVENHAND, Nantwich, Cheshire. JEREMY CORBYN says Theresa May should resign because she didn’t get a majority. But he didn’t get a majority either, so will he resign? GERRY HUGGETT, Cowfold, W. Sussex. YES, she got it wrong and didn’t get the votes she wanted, but we should get behind the Prime Minister as she tries to get the best deal she can for Britain in the Brexit negotiations. The politicians who are calling for her resignation need to get their priorities right and focus on the important issues. Cut the lady some slack. She is doing her best in an extremely difficult situation. STELLA AITCHISON, Rosyth, Fife.
