FORMER England captain Alastair Cook has been Essex’s surprise top one-day batsman. Today, the top team from the South Group face Nottingham­shire — who saw off Somerset in a high-scoring play-off — in this One-Day Cup semi-final.

UNDER-21 FOOTBALL Sweden v England, 4pm, Sky Sports 1

THE Under-21 European Championsh­ip kicks off in Poland with England up against Sweden, who were surprise champions in the 2015 tournament. Both sides were unbeaten in qualifying.

CLASSIC COMEDY Last Of The Summer Wine, 6.40pm, Drama

THE pilot for a sitcom that lasted an incredible 295 episodes. The late Peter Sallis (Cleggy) appeared in all of them, and is joined in this starting line-up by Bill Owen (Compo) and Michael Bates (Blamire). Here, starting as he means to go on, Compo swipes Nora’s bloomers.

SIXTIES MEMORIES The Summer Of Love: How Hippies Changed The World, 9pm, BBC4

PART two explores the commercial­isation and darkening of the countercul­ture as the hippies of Haight-Ashbury became a San Francisco tourist attraction. The stories of the women are particular­ly interestin­g, including those who relate how the men used ‘free love’ as an excuse for violence.

WILD WEST ACTION Texas Rising, 9pm, H2

BLOODY drama about the war between Mexico and Texas, this starts in 1836, as General Houston (Bill Paxton, pictured) decides whether to send help to the Alamo. Paxton is joined by some familiar faces, including Ray Liotta and Brendan Fraser, for this swaggering series. (Sky 531, Virgin 273)

SETTLERS’ SAGA Jamestown, 9pm, Sky 1

HENRY (Max Beesley) has returned from the wilderness, clutching what he says is silver, with a fresh perspectiv­e on his violent temper. (‘I’m a prisoner of my own deeds,’ he mourns.) Beesley is on cracking form here as Henry faces the colonists one by one — all of them have something to say to this damaged man.

CRIME FIGHTERS NCIS, 9pm, Fox

THE season 14 finale is full of nice details about the characters, threaded around a decent mystery that takes Gibbs and the team down to Paraguay, to a town where the locals ‘don’t talk to strangers’. It all builds to a thrilling cliffhange­r conclusion that will, thankfully, be resolved in season 15.

THE first part of Oliver Stone’s mammoth interview with Vladmir Putin, which is the product of more than a dozen chats and covers his personal relationsh­ip with President Trump, legacies of past leaders and more. All four parts are available on Sky On Demand and Now TV.
