Sturgeon’s Ulster offer
NICOLA Sturgeon will consider offering Northern Irish women free abortions in Scotland after they were denied the right on England’s NHS.
The First Minister said she had in mind women who risked life imprisonment if they had illegal terminations.
Women in Northern Ireland can only legally have an abortion if certain strict criteria are met, including a serious risk to the mother’s physical or mental wellbeing.
Last week, the UK Supreme Court rejected a claim from hundreds of Northern Irish women for free abortions on the NHS in England.
Hundreds a year travel to English private hospitals, spending up to £2,000 each for terminations.
