KNACKERED MOTHERS’ WINE CLUB

- BY HELEN McGINN

BARGAIN OF THE WEEK

Miraval Cotes de Provence Rose 2016, £16 (was £18), Sainsbury’s

THIS is from a beautiful chateau in Provence owned by Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie (still). Celebrity stuff aside, it’s a delicious wine full of fresh redcurrant fruits. Not cheap, but better than your average rose.

WHITE WINE

Cantina Gadoro Fiano Beneventano 2016, £6.49, Waitrose

FROM the Campania region in southern Italy, this brilliant white is made from a refreshing grape, Fiano. The perfect soundtrack to simple foods, but it’s just as happy to be quaffed alone.

FOOD PAIRING: Grilled fish.

RED WINE

Corbieres Domaine Combe du Buis 2016, £8.50, Marks & Spencer

A GOOD southern French red is hard to beat when it comes to value for money. This wine is packed with rustic, juicy berry fruits. Perfect for when the barbecue comes out.

FOOD PAIRING: Sausages.

ROSE WINE

Vino Rose 2016, £12, Morrisons

THE label screams vino, literally. In big, black letters. Pink and fruity, it’s made from the Sangiovese grape. But it’s not from the grape’s spiritual home, Italy — it’s from Washington State in the U.S. Summer in a glass.

FOOD PAIRING: Antipasti.
