White House ‘leak’ as aide lets slip Scot’s wedding day
WHEN you are marrying one of the world’s most powerful men in a fairytale wedding, it is easy to understand why you might want the details kept under wraps.
And when your fiance is head of the US Treasury, you might think keeping it secret would be easy.
But the date of Scots actress Louise Linton’s hush-hush wedding to Steve Mnuchin has been leaked – by another key member of President Trump’s team.
Miss Linton, who rose to prominence after the publication of her gap year memoir last year, had kept aspects of her wedding to Mr Mnuchin quiet until Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross let them slip yesterday.
Mr Mnuchin, a former banker, and Miss Linton, 36, met in 2013 and have been engaged since 2015. The couple like to keep their relationship very private.
However, during a conference in Washington Mr Ross blurted out that the couple plan to marry today, a date Miss Linton has since confirmed.
Introducing 54-year-old Mnuchin, Mr Ross said he and his wife ‘extend our congratulations and look forward to seeing you wed your dear fiancee, Louise Linton, on Saturday’.
According to US media, an email relayed through Miss Linton’s spokesman confirmed the ‘wedding venue is a historical building in D.C,’ although no more details were given.
Miss Linton, who attended Fettes College in Edinburgh, got her acting break when Robert Redford cast her in Lions for Lambs in 2007.
She was born and grew up in the city and after school spent part of her gap year in Zambia before moving to California.
Her reputation was dented by the publication of her memoir, In Congo’s Shadow. The book contains a passage in which ‘armed rebels descended’ on her village, entering the country from Congo.
Miss Linton claimed she had to hide from the rebels for fear of being murdered. Zambians accused her of having a ‘white saviour complex’ and said the conflict in Congo did not adversely affect life in their country.
