A degree of unfairness for Billy
BILLY Connolly, who this week received an honorary degree from Strathclyde University, says his wife, Pamela Stephenson, the recipient of a hardearned PhD, did not particularly approve of the practice.
I must say I agree. While honorary degrees give universities a nice splash of publicity, they do rather undermine the thousands of students who slave their guts out to gain their scrolls.
As Connolly himself remarked: ‘I never wanted to attend university. The only time I was in one was to deliver coal.’
