Saudi Arabia is facing austerity measures with the arrival of ‘sin taxes’. The price of cigarettes has doubled, while sugary drinks are subject to sky-high prices – in part to ease the burden on the Treasury and in part to tackle soaring levels of diabetes. Still, given the payment for most other things deemed a sin in the Kingdom seems to involve the applicatio­n of a curvy sword, locals can hardly complain.
