Satellite choice
FILM NOIR Ace In The Hole, 4pm, Sky Select
ONE of Billy Wilder’s lesserknown films, and undeservedly so. Kirk Douglas is the reporter clinging to a headline by hook or by crook. A seething media satire that’s still relevant today.
T20 CRICKET Northamptonshire v Yorkshire, 6pm, Sky Sports 2
NORTHAMPTONSHIRE will want to continue their fine record in the T20 Blast, having made it to three finals in the past four years. Josh Cobb hit 80 off 48 balls to help them to become champions last year.
SENIOR ROMANCE I’ll See You In My Dreams, 6.10pm, Sky Premiere

COUNTRY LIFE The Yorkshire Dales And The Lakes, 9pm, More4
PART two of this series captures more joy in the lives of dwellers in a stunning part of the country. We visit the sheepdog trials, where judge Emma Gray reveals that what she values in a good run might not be favoured by another. ‘It’s like judging art,’ she says with a smile.
SURREAL MYSTERY Twin Peaks: The Return, 9pm, Sky Atlantic
THE most extraordinary thing about this revival has been Kyle MacLachlan’s brilliant performance in three very different roles — as Agent Cooper, as his deadly doppelganger and as Dougie Jones, an insurance salesman with questionable taste in fashion.
NEW REALITY SHOW Hair Goddess, 9pm, TLC
CHRISTINA OLIVA (pictured) is an ambitious queen of hair extensions from New York’s Staten Island, who’s now opened up across the water in Manhattan. She works with her family, is a warm presence and, despite a grating accent, it’s hard not to wish her well in this new fly-onthe-salonwall series. (Sky 125, Virgin 167)
SUBURBAN WILDLIFE The British Garden: Life And Death On Your Lawn, 9pm, BBC4
‘WE PROBABLY know more about the ecology of tropical rainforests than our back yards.’ In order to rectify this, Chris Packham (pictured) has spent a year poking about in British gardens, and this new film is the result. Finding out what happens on our lawns at night is especially interesting.
CALL 911 . . . Chicago Fire, 9pm, Sky Living
THE slick firefighter drama begins a new, fifth season where the fourth left off, with Stella and Severide officially a couple — at least as far as Stella is concerned, but Severide isn’t so sure. Will the arrival of her knife-wielding ex see him heading for the hills?
A BED FOR THE NIGHT Would You Take In A Stranger?, 10pm, More4
THIS eye-opening documentary follows the work of the charity Nightstop, who match young, suddenly homeless people with a kind network of hosts for a night. The snapshots of all of the lives concerned — on both sides of the equation — are nicely done.
