We’re now starting to click, says Caixinha

- GRAHAM SWANN

RANGERS manager Pedro Caixinha insists his players are finally starting to gel after they continued their preparation for the new season by defeating Watford 2-1 in a closed-doors friendly at the Premier League side’s training centre last night. New signing Daniel Candeias fired the Ibrox men in front during the first half before midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah equalised for the Hornets just after half-time. However, striker Martyn Waghorn ensured it was a productive trip south of the border when he scored the winner two minutes from time. Caixinha was forced to arrange pre-season matches after their disastrous defeat to Luxembourg minnows Progres Niederkorn in the Europa League left them with no fixture a month before their Premiership opener at Motherwell on August 6. Rangers drew 1-1 at home to Marseille on Saturday and Caixinha was pleased with his team’s latest outing. ‘The boys are getting the point and are doing fantastic work and a fantastic job,’ he said. ‘They are getting the main ideas and I think especially in the first half, when we played in the same formation and almost the same first XI as we did against Marseille, the boys put in a fantastic performance. ‘In the second half, we tried to change the formation a little bit and made some changes to try some different things. ‘This was the moment where we struggled a little bit more, but, after that, some new boys came on with some very good rhythm.’ Rangers will now prepare to face Sheffield Wednesday in a friendly at Hillsborough on Sunday.
