The dastardly Mr Deedes

Ryanair boss Michael O’Leary’s interview with Newsnight’s Kirsty Wark was discussed admiringly on social media yesterday. He remained uncharacteristically polite, never once getting irked despite his interrogator speaking over him at every opportunity. Has the old rascal undergone media training? It was a disastrous 2013 interview with Wark, in which she tackled him about sexism, which finally convinced O’Loudmouth to tone down his bully boy image.

Standard Chartered boss Bill Winters’s Notting Hill theatre, The Print Room, next month holds an evening with former Labour MP Glenda Jackson, who’ll be reciting poetry from late author Stevie Smith. Is self-proclaimed socialist Glenda, 81, aware her host is a fat-cat City banker on £3.4m a year? The show’s for charity, so perhaps Miss Jackson is willing to put her iron-cast principles to one side for a night.

Preening ex-Goldman Sachs banker Anthony Scaramucci is the laughing stock of Washington after being sacked as Donald Trump’s head of communications barely ten days into the job. ‘The Mooch’, 53, has long been a figure of fun on Wall Street. An expat US banker recently described him to me as ‘the sort of creep who has a life-sized poster of himself pinned on the inside of his closet’.

Lloyd’s of London is being sued by twerpish rapper Kanye West for £7.5m for refusing to pay out on a policy after he cancelled his US tour last year. Lloyd’s chief Inga Beale may feel particularly minded to fight this case all the way. Popular Inga, 54, is bisexual, while West, 40, often refers to ‘dykes’ in his sometimes distasteful ditties.

Amazon has announced a recruitment drive, with 50,000 jobs now available around the globe. While most are packing and sorting roles, positions up for grabs at the online retail giant’s base in London include: process fulfilment associate; associate improvement manager; senior vendor manager; business process analyst. Have they been stealing job titles from the BBC?
