Top spots for picnics, but pack your brolly!

- By Joe Stenson

WITH our washout of a summer in full flow it is a cruelly tantalising accolade to be given.

But two Scottish locations have made it into the top 20 best UK picnic spots.

Boden Boo woodland on the Clyde by the Erskine Bridge, Renfrewshire, and Galloway Forest Park are both included in the rankings of top al fresco dining locations.

Sadly, the persistent rain and wind that is keeping families indoors means the chances of taking advantage of them any time soon may be a little slim.

The spots came 18th and 20th in a survey of 2,000 parents.

Three Cliffs Bay in Gower, Wales, bagged the top spot based on the views and surroundings, accessibility, facilities and parking.

Other popular spots include London’s Richmond Park and Padley Gorge in Derbyshire.

The survey by DisneyLife also found that despite the soggy weather an optimistic 99 per cent of Scots planned to go on a family picnic this summer.

And 91 per cent said they believe food tastes better outside, which might explain our eagerness to defy the weather and eat outdoors.

North of the Border, 90 per cent of us also claimed to prefer preparing our picnic from scratch, bringing a homemade feast to the great outdoors.

In addition, 82 per cent say that they are keen to experience new picnic spots, with many people happy to drive for an hour or more to find the ideal location.
