THEY have been patiently waiting for this year’s A-list celebrities to be revealed.

But some Strictly Come Dancing fans were left scratching their heads over the latest addition.

The ninth contestant hoping to cha-cha-cha her way to the final is Scottish comedian Susan Calman, but many took to social media to say they had no idea who she was.

Tracey Shipham tweeted: ‘I’ve not even heard of the latest “celeb”,’ while another viewer wrote: ‘Is a celebrity a celebrity when you have to Google who they are after their Strictly “unveiling”?’

But Glasgow-born Miss Calman, 42, who quit her job as a corporate lawyer in 2006 to work in comedy, also took to social media to say she was the ‘last one on the dancefloor’. She added: ‘I haven’t worn heels or a dress since I was 1 , I haven’t danced with a man in over a decade. Strictly, I’m ready. I’m so excited!’

While viewers complained about this year’s line-up, which includes Scots actor Joe McFadden, The Saturdays’ Mollie King, former JLS singer Aston Merrygold and This Morning’s Ruth Langsford, stars tweeted their excitement at Miss Calman joining the show.

Jennifer Saunders wrote on Twitter: ‘This is going to be brilliant! Go Susan,’ while Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson said the news was ‘Awesome awesome stuff.’ Miss Calman’s wife, Lee Cormack, wrote: ‘I am so excited as my beautiful wife has just been announced as celebrity number nine on Strictly Come Dancing.’

Speaking on Jeremy Vine’s Radio 2 show yesterday, Miss Calman said: ‘My mother will die happy to finally see me in glitter and a dress.’

The comedian recently hosted the BBC daytime quiz show The Boss and has also appeared on panel shows including Mock The Week.

Her father, Sir Kenneth Calman, Chancellor of Glasgow University and ex-chief medical officer for Scotland, chaired the Calman Commission on Scottish devolution.
