Corbyn’s censorship

-

AT the conclusion of the horrifying Newcastle abuse trial, Labour MP Sarah Champion bravely spoke out about a problem which, she said, was ‘still going on in our towns now’.

For fear of being branded racist or because of misguided political correctness, she warned, the issue of men from mainly Pakistani backgrounds preying on white girls was still not being addressed.

As the politician who represents Rotherham – where more than 1,400 children fell victim to organised abuse – her comments carry significant weight.

For years, and despite mounting evidence, the Left has either refused to acknowledge this issue or, worse, shouted down anyone who dared raise it with cries of racism. Was this a sign that the country was capable of having a grown-up discussion about these horrifying crimes?

The answer from Labour was a firm No, as Miss Champion was purged from her party’s front bench for daring to speak candidly.

Her removal followed an online witchhunt by party activists determined to force her out for saying things they simply don’t like.

By sacking her, Jeremy Corbyn sends the message that Labour censors those with whom it disagrees.

In silencing her, Mr Corbyn risks promulgating the very politically correct culture which led to social workers, the police and council officials to ignore these heinous crimes in the first place.

The Mail repeats, the overwhelming majority of British Asians abhor such crimes. So they have nothing to fear from a frank discussion that the Left is so determined to shut down.
