Do we need an Irish border after Brexit?

-

IT IS madness to consider a full, open border between Northern Ireland and the Republic once we leave the EU. This suggestion shows the politicians and big business have no comprehension of what Brexit actually means. Is this something the DUP demanded? Leaving the EU means we must secure all our borders. If the Republic does not want a border, it should encourage all the people of that island to decide if they want a united Ireland by holding a referendum. Until that happens, there must be a ‘hard’ border with the UK.

CAROL NOBLE, Burnopfield, Co. Durham.

The solution is quite simple: a united Ireland outside the EU and inside the Commonwealth.

CHRISTOPHER HILLIDGE, Dymock, Glos.

THE choice for the Irish premier is a referendum as to whether his country should stay in the EU or enact an Irexit.

Given that the majority of Irish people are astute enough to see the benefits of leaving, he might find the solution to the problem is just a ballot away.

A. P. King, Reading, Berks. A virtual border or a seamless border is no border at all. Where is the security to stop the smuggling of goods or people? We need a secure border at all points around the UK. A government’s first duty is to protect the security of the country.

JOHN SMITH, Warrington, Cheshire.
