MAYA is a bright young woman who has a very good chance of getting a place at a top university. With her A-levels looming, Maya knows she needs to buckle down and focus on her studies to get the grades she needs. The stress takes its toll, and is aggravated by the fact that Maya, who is just 17, is in the grip of anorexia; it’s not certain that she will actually make it to the exam. Grace Dent tells Maya’s story in her continuing series of THE UNTOLD (RADIO 4, 11AM) taking place in 21st-century Britain.

ACTRESS turned author Sarah Winman joins SIMON MAYO (RADIO 2, 5PM) for this Radio 2 Book Club special. Sarah will be talking about her critically acclaimed new novel, Tin Man — her third — which she describes as ‘a love letter to human kindness and friendship, loss and living’.

WERE you a Monkman or a Seagull fan? Eric’s enthusiasm and Bobby’s gracious sportsmanship added an extra layer of interest to the last series of BBC2’s University Challenge.

For MONKMAN AND SEAGULL’S POLYMATHIC ADVENTURE (RADIO 4

(FM), 8.30PM) they set out to find out if knowing a lot is useful to society.

IN RICKY ROSS’S NEW TRADITION (RADIO 2,

10PM), the lead singer of Deacon Blue (pictured) begins a new, four-part series, live from Glasgow. He’ll be playing new and old tracks, and tracing the links that connect them.
