Web boast of White House Scot ...over her £10k outfit

- By Neil Sears n.sears@dailymail.co.uk

THE Scottish wife of Donald Trump’s Treasury Secretary has sparked outrage by bragging about her designer wardrobe – then sneering at a member of the public for paying less tax than her.

Louise Linton, 36 – who grew up in a castle – posted online a photograph of herself leaving a government-funded flight with multi-millionaire husband Steven Mnuchin, 54.

She also wrote a caption listing some of the items she was wearing as part of her £10,000 outfit, stating: ‘Great #daytrip to #Kentucky! #nicest #people #beautiful #countryside #rolandmouret pants #tomford sunnies #hermesscarf #valentinorock studheels #valentino.’

But a member of the public criticised her for boasting while on an official visit, posting: ‘Glad we could pay for your little getaway. #deplorable.’

Miss Linton – whose husband has a fortune of around £40million – spitefully responded with: ‘Have you given more to the economy than me and my husband?’

The Scot – who has posed in underwear for a men’s magazine – branded the woman ‘adorably out of touch’, adding: ‘I’m pretty sure we paid more taxes toward our day “trip” than you did. Pretty sure that the amount we sacrifice per year is a lot more than you’d be willing to sacrifice if the choice was yours.’

Criticism of her attitude prompted Miss Linton to delete her initial post and to make her Instagram account private.

The actress – infamous for her book about a gap year in Zambia that was deemed offensive and inaccurate – posted the picture on Monday after she flew to Kentucky with Mr Mnuchin, whom she wed in Washington in June. She was born in Edinburgh and her parents own Melville Castle, in Midlothian.

Appalled Instagram user jenniemiller29, who describes herself as a mother of three, posted that she found Miss Linton’s bragging ‘deplorable’.

After writing her sneering response, Miss Linton tried to play peacemaker, saying she had looked at her critic’s online pictures and posting: ‘Your kids look very cute. Your life looks cute. I know you’re mad but deep down you’re nice and so am I. Have a pleasant evening.’

But jenniemiller29 responded by saying: ‘Apparently I offended this deplorable girl I had never heard of until today.

‘She says she’s a nice person. I doubt it. There weren’t any Nazi sympathisers at my wedding.’

A Treasury Department official declined to comment on the post, but said the Mnuchins had repaid the government for the trip. The official added that Miss Linton was not paid by any of the fashion labels she had promoted in her post.
