Family pleads for minister’s help to f ind missing mum

- By Rachel Watson Deputy Scottish Political Editor

THE family of a woman who has been missing in Spain for nearly two years has begged the Scottish Government to help find her.

Lisa Brown, 32, vanished from her home in Cadiz in November 2015, with no trace of her ever uncovered.

The mother of one’s brother and sister, Craig Douglas and Helen Jordan, have been leading the search for her. Yesterday, the siblings met Justice Secretary Michael Matheson to appeal for financial and material assistance.

Mr Douglas has previously told of his fears that his sister was murdered.

Miss Brown, from Alexandria, Dunbartonshire, was living in southern Spain and working for a gambling firm in Gibraltar. She was reported missing after failing to collect son Marco, now ten, from school.

A forensic exam uncovered blood on a mattress at her home – leading to the suspicion she had a violent altercation with her on-off boyfriend Simon Corner, 35.

He was arrested in Denmark last year and extradited to Spain but was later freed on bail.

The Englishman insists he is innocent and has not been charged by police.

Two unnamed Britons linked to the inquiry have been released on bail.

Miss Brown’s family has offered a £7,000 reward for information that solves the mystery of her disappearance and have been raising money to fund this as well as their search.

Her siblings met Mr Matheson in Edinburgh yesterday, with their MP Martin Docherty-Hughes.

Mr Douglas said: ‘The meeting was quite positive and we are hopeful for some assistance.’

Mrs Jordan said the inquiry into the disappearance is ‘very much ongoing’, and that the family

plans to visit Spain in November.

She added: ‘We are going right to the top with this. We’ll take this as far as we can.’

Last night, Nationalist MP Mr Docherty-Hughes said: ‘We are really looking for the Spanish authorities to communicate, that’s one of the critical issues.

‘There are people who are now out on bail in Spain, which adds pressure to the situation.’

Mr Matheson praised the siblings’ ‘strength and effort’, adding: ‘The Scottish Government will work with Police Scotland and partners to continue to provide support and assistance.’
