Bad trip as £6,500 of drugs left on bus

It’s always important to not leave your belongings behind and to take the right luggage with you when travelling.

Especially if the suitcase you mistake for your own contains £6,500 worth of illegal drugs, as one man has discovered.

the traveller picked up the wrong suitcase after getting off a National Express bus travelling between London and Belfast on tuesday morning.

It wasn’t until he got home to Dumfries that he discovered the suitcase wasn’t his, and took it to a tourist informatio­n centre.

But staff noticed a strange smell coming from the suitcase and handed it to officers at Dumfries police station, who uncovered the large amount of drugs.

Now they are hunting for a man who was reportedly searching for the suitcase on tuesday.

Constable Alistair Hope said: ‘We have reports of a young man, described as being in his mid20s, fair hair, wearing jeans and a horizontal­ly striped fawncolour­ed

His comments came after a cheeky Facebook appeal that encouraged the suitcase’s owner to ‘pop in’ and tell police what’s inside to get it back – but only after being arrested and attending a court case.

Dumfries and Galloway police division wrote: ‘Were you a bit wasted last night? Did you misplace a suitcase with £6,500 worth of drugs in it... Great news, it’s been found and we have it at Dumfries police station.

‘Just pop in, tell us what’s inside it, where you left it and we will be happy to return it to you!’

Police scotland said the suitcase’s owner could be charged with possession with intent to supply if caught. the type of drug found in the suitcase is ‘specialist knowledge’ and will not be revealed yet, they said.
