007 ‘to wed again’ – but second bride doesn’t fare much better than the first

AT the end of the last film, James Bond was right on form... rescuing his love interest just as the credits rolled.

At the start of the new one, however, he will be on more unusual ground – in a state of marital bliss, it is claimed.

It appears 007 not only wooed Lea Seydoux – who played Dr Madeleine Swann in Spectre – but he wed her as well.

Current Bond, Daniel Craig, has confirmed that he would reprise his role for his fifth installment as the British super spy – but leaks from Hollywood about the plot for the next film, dubbed ‘Bond 25’, claim the spy’s life will be dramatically different.

A source told the US entertainment column, Page Six, that as the next film opens, the pair are embarking on married life.

The source said of the upcoming film: ‘Bond quits the secret service, and he’s in love and gets married.’ But they go on to say that ‘his wife then gets killed’ causing him to spring back into action.

The rumoured plot twist could a be a response to Craig previously condemning the character as ‘f ****** lonely’ and saying he hoped he could portray a less ‘sexist and misogynistic’ incarnation of the famous spy.

Despite the numerous ‘Bond girls’, 007 has only been married in one of the previous 24 films.

In the 1969 film adaptation of the Ian Fleming novel On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, he weds Tracy di Vicenzo, after she helps him fight villain Blofeld. Australian George Lazenby played Bond in that instance. The MI6 star marries di Vicenzo, played by the glamorous Diana Rigg, at the end of the film and they discuss having six children as they drive away after cutting their cake.

But Blofeld and his henchwoman Irma Bunt shoot Tracy dead in a drive-by after they pull up on the side of the road to remove flowers from the car.

Bond is then seen sobbing as he holds his wife’s lifeless body.

Craig, 49, who is married to the actress Rachel Weisz, confirmed he would be returning to the role when he spoke to US talk show host Stephen Colbert on The Late Show in August.

He said: ‘If I am going to speak the truth, I should speak the truth to you.’ He will be returning with writers Robert Wade and Neal Purvis who worked on Craig’s other Bond films Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall and Spectre.

But the actor confirmed this would be his final Bond film, saying: ‘I think this is it, I just want to go out on a high note. I can’t wait.’ It is scheduled to be released on November 8, 2019.
