Wills tells Grenfell crowds: Sorry my wife’s not here . . . but she has got a good excuse!

PRINCE William yesterday apologised to former residents of Grenfell Tower that his pregnant wife had not joined him on a visit, joking: ‘She’s got a good excuse!’

William and Harry had both attended a support centre they have helped set up for people affected by the tragedy.

The duchess had been due to join them but was forced to cancel the engagement as she is again suffering from the chronic form of morning sickness, hyperemesis gravidarum, that plagued her first two pregnancies.

The Support 4 Grenfell Community Hub in North Kensington has been provided by their Royal Foundation charitable organisation as a home for charities working in the area.

During their visit, both William and Harry spoke about the importance of talking about grief. They met victims of the blaze including the Gomes family, who escaped the fire from their home on the 21st floor only for pregnant Andreia Gomes to miscarry unborn son Logan hours later. Speaking to Luana Gomes, 12, and her sister Megan, ten, William addressed dealing with grief, saying: ‘Talk about your loss, promise me.’

Afterwards their father Marcio Gomes said: ‘The princes were amazing. They really knew what they were talking about.’

The royals also visited the Al-Manaar Muslim Cultural Centre, which has been helping those caught up in the disaster.
