McGINN’S BROTHERLY LOVE

- GEORGE GRANT

THERE may be some sibling rivalry when they meet on the field of play, but Partick Thistle new boy Paul McGinn has nothing but praise for his indemand younger brother John. The Hibernian midfielder, 22, was subject to three failed bids during the transfer window from English Championship side Nottingham Forest, who could renew their interest in January. Older brother Paul, 26, signed a one-year contract for the Jags last week and the former Dundee defender recalled playing against the Scotland international three years ago when he was at St Mirren, where the oldest brother of the trio, 28-year-old Stephen, is currently captain. The Jags recruit said: ‘I played against John before. I fouled him at St Mirren Park and I stopped to see if he was all right. ‘I thought the ref had stopped it, but our manager Paul Hartley let me know about that after the game, even though we won 1-0. ‘He is going to be worth a fortune, so I didn’t want to cost the family that!’ The former Dens Park player believes McGinn junior would be a big success down south. ‘I think he would do very well down there. He is only going up the way,’ he continued. ‘It is a short career, so you need to do what you can for yourself and the sad thing is there is more money down there. ‘If the opportunities come, they come. If not, he is still at a big club and he can enjoy his football at Hibs. ‘But I imagine clubs will be sniffing. He is a top player, so it wouldn’t surprise me if there were more offers for him.’
