OAP sped wrong way down A90
A CONFUSED pensioner sped along at 70mph on the wrong side of a dual carriageway for at least six miles before she was brought to a halt by police.
Karen Hutchins, 66, ignored horrified drivers who flashed their lights to alert her that she was driving east in the overtaking lane of the west-bound road.
At Perth Sheriff Court yesterday, fiscal depute Carol Whyte said: ‘At 3am another road user was travelling from Dundee towards Perth. He could see the accused’s vehicle heading towards him in what would be the overtaking lane.
‘There were a number of other road users flashing their headlights.’
Hutchins kept driving on the wrong side ‘at an estimated speed of 60-70mph’, until police stopped her. She passed a roadside breath test and told arresting officers she was ‘guilty as charged’.
Hutchins, of Sutton Coldfield, near Birmingham, admitted driving dangerously on the wrong side of the A90 between Inchmichael and Longforgan on November 6 last year. Sentence was deferred for background reports.
