The ideal bike if you want to nip to the pub. . .
BRINGING new meaning to the phrase ‘one for the road’, this wooden bicycle was made from old whisky barrels.
Its frame is handcrafted from around 15 wooden staves from casks used to mature Glenmorangie whisky.
To date, 40 of the bicycles have been made to order.
All of the wood was shipped from the Glenmorangie distillery in Tain, Rossshire, to Portland, Oregon, where hardwood bike specialist Renovo got them ready for the road.
The wood was kiln dried before being sanded and smoothed into shape, with each bike, which costs £5,200, taking around 20 hours to create.
Dr Bill Lumsden, Glenmorangie’s director of distilling, said: ‘This pioneering collaboration with Renovo brings new life to the casks which inspire our whisky.’
Last year, Glenmorangie revealed a range of sunglasses made from whisky casks by the British designer Finlay & Co.
