Northern Irish boss O’Neill on drink-driving charge

-

NORTHERN IRELANd boss Michael O’Neill has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving near Edinburgh. The Irish FA declined to comment ‘as it is a police matter’. A Police Scotland spokesman said: ‘Police in Edinburgh arrested and charged a 48-year-old man in connection with drink driving eastbound on the A720 around 12.55am on Sunday, September 10. ‘He is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on October 10.’ O’Neill, who lives in the Scottish capital, will lead his team against Norway in Oslo in their final World Cup qualifier two days before that court date. He has turned around Northern Ireland’s fortunes since taking the job five years ago, leading them to the knockout stage of Euro 2016 in their first major tournament in 30 years.
