Our hotel room’s view to die for...the morgue

- By Bethany Gleave

WHEN Jackie Colbert spent almost £4,000 on a Spanish holiday, she expected a relaxing fortnight of sun, sea and sand.

But her break took a macabre turn when she was put in a room overlooking a morgue and was shocked to see bodies being wheeled in and out.

Last night Mrs Colbert said: ‘I can’t get the thought of someone who has just passed away being wheeled into the morgue, in full view of holidaymakers, out of my head.’

Mrs Colbert and her husband James, from Glasgow, spent £3,750 on the holiday at the four-star Club Hotel Rui in Torremolinos. They arrived on August 13 after a week’s cruise for her 60th birthday, having booked the package holiday through Thomson.

The grandmother of two said: ‘One night we were sat on the balcony when we heard this rattling noise at around 1am. I looked over and saw this body being wheeled into the building next to us. I couldn’t believe it. It really unsettled me.’

The building is named by Google Maps as the Hospital Maritimo Cita Previa.

Mrs Colbert believes Thomson should have warned guests that rooms overlook a morgue. The former care worker decided to complain on her return after she felt unable to cope with repacking and moving to another room due to illness during her stay.

Thomson said: ‘Unfortunately, as we were not made aware of the customers’ complaint while they were away, we were unable to offer a suitable resolution.’
