Plant of the week
BUDDLEJA X WEYERIANA
BUDDLEJAS are brilliant for attracting butterflies and other pollinators. So here’s a gorgeous alternative to the widespread purple or mauve B. davidii. Buddleja x weyeriana results from crossing early flowering B. globosa and the more familiar B. davidii. The flowers range from creamy amber to rich apricot. To butterflies, B. x weyeriana flowers are as tempting as those of common buddleja. The variety Golden Glow has soft apricot flowers, Sungold (above) is orange yellow and Moonlight is mauve-flushed cream. Pruning is the same as B. davidii — cut the shrubs hard back each February.
