STRAIGHT TO THE POINT

-

I MOVED house in June and wanted to take my Virgin broadband with me. Since then, there have been delays in getting the correct cables installed and I’ve been told it will be another two weeks. In the meantime, I can only use the expensive internet on my mobile.

D.W., North London

VIRGIN Media says new cables were required because it did not previously service the property. It had to apply for permission from the council, which took longer than expected. It has apologised and offered you free installation and goodwill credit.

I HAVE never had an account with Extra Energy, but I have been sent a bill for £148 and I’m getting letters from a debt collector demanding payment.

S.P., Dorset.

EXTRA Energy supplied your property before you moved in and there was a delay in switching the account to sse as per your request. Extra Energy had continued to supply your home for the first 18 days, which is what the bill is for. It has agreed to waive these charges and told its debt agency not to contact you again.

SINCE my husband died, I’ve not had a clear head. I’m always getting cold calls and I’ve been fooled into giving out my card details to companies which say I owe them money. How can I protect myself?

M.C., Doncaster.

I CONTACTED doncaster Trading standards on your behalf and they have visited you to talk you through how to spot scams. As you are a BT customer you can ask for a free phone service called BT Protect. This asks callers to state their name before they are put through, allowing you to reject calls from people you don’t recognise.
