Stalker ordeal of IS hostage’s girl

- By Gordon Currie

THE daughter of murdered Scots hostage David Haines has said she felt sick when she discovered her controlling boyfriend had defaced a scrapbook dedicated to her father’s memory.

Bethany Haines, 20, watched in court yesterday as the full horrific details of Andrew Murray’s callous six-month stalking campaign against her were recounted.

Murray, 22, tore up her treasured 45-page scrapbook which she had compiled in the wake of her father’s murder by Islamic State in Syria after being held hostage for 18 months.

Outside Perth Sheriff Court, she said Murray had been insanely jealous of photographs of her and her former partner at her father’s memorial service.

The student said he had cut her ex-boyfriend’s head off in the pictures and coloured him in to make it look like she was embracing her father’s killer Jihadi John.

Miss Haines said: ‘It was a sick thing to do. Andrew was completely controlling.

‘I felt like I was a prisoner in my own home. I would like to see him rot in prison for the rest of his life but I know that’s not going to happen.’

Fiscal depute Sue Ruta told the court Murray had shouted and sworn in Miss Haines’s face and called her vile names while falsely accusing her of sleeping with other men.

Murray, from Perth, admitted stalking Miss Haines in the Perthshire town of Coupar Angus between April 1 and October 3 last year.

Sheriff Lindsay Foulis deferred sentence for social work reports.
