Give us a smile, Harry
Prince’s Canadian fans jostle for a photo (but will Meghan join him?)
IT WAS the sort of welcome usually reserved for pop stars.
But yesterday it was Prince Harry’s turn to be greeted by a sea of mainly female fans wielding camera phones.
He looked relaxed as he arrived at a symposium in Toronto, Canada, before today’s opening of the 2017 Invictus Games.
Outside he was met by a large gathering of fans – many of them middle-aged women – trying to get a picture of him.
There has been speculation that the prince will be joined during his nine-day visit to Canada by his girlfriend Meghan Markle, who lives and works in Toronto. The US actress has dated Harry for just over a year, and there have been suggestions recently that the announcement of an engagement is now merely a formality.
The star of TV show Suits declared in a recent interview: ‘We’re two people who are really happy and in love. I hope what people will understand is that this is our time. This is for us.’
Harry established the Invictus Games in 2014 to help injured servicemen and women and veterans with their recovery.
Before today’s opening ceremony, the prince will hold a meeting with the American first lady Melania Trump and have separate talks with Canada’s prime minister Justin Trudeau.
At yesterday’s pre-games symposium, run by the veterans’ organisation True Patriot Love Foundation, he sat in the audience to listen to a panel of past and present Invictus competitors and their families discuss the impact the games have had on them.
