SHE works in one of the most bodyconscious industries in the world, but Kate Winslet insists she never steps foot on the scales.
In fact, the 41-year-old actress claims she has not weighed herself in more than 12 years – and refuses to be defined by her dress size. The Hollywood star made the remark on Tuesday while talking about her new film, The Mountain Between Us, about the survivors of a plane crash.
Discussing a scene in which co-star Idris Elba is forced to drag her ‘dead weight’ from a frozen stream, Miss Winslet told US chat show host Jimmy Fallon: ‘It was very hard on him sliding around on really frozen ground with no grips, trying to pull me up and I don’t know how much I weigh.
‘I haven’t weighed myself in 12 years – top tip, it is a great move. But pulling my body weight, plus soaking wet with water and those clothes – it was pretty rough on poor old Idris.’
The revelation would suggest that the Oscar-winning star, who turns 42 next month, last weighed herself at the age of 29 in 2005. Miss Winslet – nicknamed ‘Blubber’ at school over her weight – has fluctuated in dress size over the years. A curvy size 14 when she made her name in the 1997 blockbuster Titanic, she has been a size ten at her slimmest.
Speaking about her weight, she has said: ‘I’m a great believer of everything in moderation, with no faddy foods or strange elimination diets, because how boring is that?’
