We spend 10 months just moaning at the weather

- By Helen Le Caplain

WITH all the rain we’ve endured in recent weeks, it’s been hard for Scots to maintain a sunny disposition.

Now a survey reveals the depths of our discontent – we spend an average of 104 hours a year moaning about the weather, equivalent to two hours a week, five days a year or ten months in a lifetime.

Weather-preoccupied Scots check the forecast eight times a week and discuss the outcome with a partner and work colleagues at least five times, according to the research for Tetley tea.

And even when the sun makes an appearance, half of us com- plain when the weather is too humid, while 47 per cent moan when it is too hot.

Eleven per cent say the Scottish weather leaves them feeling ‘utterly depressed’, while 13 per cent moan that it makes planning social events difficult.

But a philosophical 62 per cent say there is nothing they can do about it, so there is no point in stressing out.

Tetley, which commissioned the study of 1,500 Brits, teamed up with psychologist Honey Langcaster-James to explore the impact a lack of sunshine has on the mood of the nation.

She said: ‘Regular exercise has been proven to help boost mood and reduce symptoms associated with depression, so it’s more important than ever during the winter months to make time for it.’
