Strachan is missing me in the south, says Fraser

- By GEORGE GRANT

BOURNEMOUTH winger Ryan Fraser has accused Gordon Strachan of not seeing enough of him in action because it is too far to travel to the south coast of England. The 23-year-old is in the Scotland squad for the crucial World Cup qualifiers against Slovakia and Slovenia. But yesterday he expressed his frustration at being an unused sub during the previous games with Lithuania and Malta earlier this month. And, in a complaint unlikely to be well received by the national boss, Fraser (below) appeared to suggest he might start more if Strachan watched him playing for his club. ‘For Scotland, it’s one of them where I am young so I want to go in and impress. So when you don’t play it’s hard to take when you think you should be,’ he said. ‘I don’t think they come and watch too many games down here, if I’m honest. I’m on the other side of the country. They probably should and I am not saying they don’t watch videos and stuff like that but I can’t see them coming down to watch too many games.’ Fraser, who made his debut as a sub in the 2-2 draw with England at Hampden in June, also hinted at Strachan giving special treatment to Scotland’s Celtic contingent. The ex-Aberdeen winger said: ‘When I go away with them I try my best and try to impress in training but I suppose he (Strachan) has his players, like the Celtic boys, he likes to play. They are doing so well and play together every week, obviously. They need that winning feeling and I think the Celtic boys have that. But I want to play. I don’t want to go again and not play. That will be annoying.’
