Harry did his bit on front line so ignore MP’s slur

-

PRINCe Harry’s first Afghan tour was as part of the 52nd Lowland division commanded by General Andrew Mackay.

General Mackay is a former commander of the King’s Own Scottish Borderers, governor of edinburgh Castle and a veteran of Northern Ireland, the Balkans and Afghanistan.

The Pentagon called the 52nd’s assault on Musa Qala in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, in 2007 ‘one of the best operations in years’.

General Mackay made it clear Harry was a valued member of his team – had he been anything less, he would have been back home in a flash. I would take the General’s view of Harry’s service over that of a clueless Labour politician any day. aNDy sMiTh, North Berwick, east lothian PRINCe Harry put his life on the line for his country. What has emma dent Coad (Mail) done to equal that in her time as an MP? a. reiD, glasgow LABOUR MP emma dent Coad is typical of the sneering class who regard the military as a bunch of blood-crazed thickos. Had Harry failed his ‘helicopter exams’ he would not have been allowed near the Apache gunship, one of this country’s most expensive and complex weapons systems and a lifeline for troops on the ground engaged in a life-or-death struggle.

Previously, Harry was a forward air controller – again a key task and not something trusted to a man there just because he is a prince. Sadly, illdisguised contempt for our troops is common – until there is a victory parade to be enjoyed when suddenly everyone’s a pal of ‘Tommy’. Doug Baillie, edinburgh.
