IT is a far cry from the modest semi he grew up in...

James Corden has splashed out £7million on a mansion in Los Angeles after enjoying huge success in the US.

The actor, 39, moved to LA nearly three years ago to host his own chat show. But he has previously only rented because he was worried it would be ‘a complete disaster’.

However he has been a hit with viewers since taking over The Late Late Show from Scots comedian Craig Ferguson.

The former Gavin and Stacey star snapped up the five-bedroom, eight-bathroom home earlier this month and moved in this week.

It is in one of Hollywood’s most desirable areas, with A-listers including Gwyneth Paltrow, Cindy Crawford and Harrison Ford owning homes nearby. Corden and his wife Julia, who is expecting their third child, are said to have liked the mansion because of its leafy feel.

The impressive house comes with a spa, gym, oak-panelled library and spacious master suite with room for two baths and enormous walk-in closets. The extensive garden features a swimming pool, pergola, fire-pit and built-in barbecue.

The house was bought for $9.7million (£7.24million), but its value has already gone up by $500,000, according to estate agent reports. Corden has become a household name in the States thanks to his show, on which guests have included Mariah Carey, Elton John, Adele and Michelle Obama.

The Bafta-winning star’s contract was extended until at least 2020, and he is thought to earn around £2.2million a year.

Corden spoke of his fears before the show’s launch, telling The Sun: ‘What are the chances of a chubby boy going to America to do a top job like this and being anything other than a complete disaster? I’m scared I’ll be the boy who couldn’t hack it and had to go back home with his tail between his legs.’

Corden grew up in a semi-detached twobedroom home in Hazlemere, Buckinghamshire. He said about nearby High Wycombe: ‘I have such affection for it...Sometimes it could be painfully ordinary and it has a chair museum so what more could you want?’
