Me, barking up wrong tree? Crazy capers of climbing cockapoo who loves to be top dog

- By Sam Walker

IT’S not unusual for a dog to chase a stick.

But this barking mad cockapoo appears to have taken the game of fetch to a new level – by climbing trees in pursuit of her ‘prey’.

One-year-old pup Fern was snapped scrambling up a pine tree in Achilty Forest near Strathpeffer in Ross-shire.

Owner Margaret Robb, 6 , said: ‘I threw a stick for Fern and it went past the tree, but she seemed to think it landed on it because the next thing I knew she had taken a run up and leapt onto the trunk.

‘She then tucked her hind legs underneath her body to give herself some grip and started to climb. I’ve had dogs for 0 years and I’ve never seen anything like it.

‘Fern’s always leaping around anyway but now she’s figured out that she can climb trees she’s always doing it.’

Mrs Robb posted a snap of the gravity-defying pooch on Facebook, and it has been viewed 9,000 times.

She added: ‘It received loads of interest with people joking that she was more like a koala bear.’

BELLA is the most popular dog name in Scotland, according to a Kennel Club survey. The top ten dog names also included Alfie, Max, Ruby and Poppy, while favourites in England included Luna and Buddy.
