Corbyn won’t say if he’d order attack

JEREMY Corbyn yesterday refused to say if he would have ordered the drone strike that killed ‘White Widow’ Sally Jones.

The Labour leader said terror suspects should face trial instead and insisted he would want to know all the facts before ordering a strike.

Asked if he would have ordered this drone strike, Mr Corbyn, former chairman of the Stop The War coalition, said it was a ‘difficult to give an answer’ to a ‘hypothetical’ question.

‘I think we have to look at very carefully the effects on the civilian population of any bombing…before such a decision is made,’ he told ITV News. Asked if he would have preferred to see Jones prosecuted, he said: ‘I think people who have committed crimes ought to be put on trial…when you interrogate someone you get more information about the background to it.’

Mr Corbyn said the UK must ‘bring everyone back around the table to get a political solution because we cannot go on with having a war’.

Defence Secretary Sir Michael Fallon said: ‘Corbyn’s continued refusal to back drone strikes on terrorists who are actively plotting murder on our streets shows he is simply not fit to lead and keep us safe.’
